Plantation Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Ideally located just seven miles away from the entrance to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Plantation Lodge provides luxury accommodations and unparalleled hospitality.

The lodge has a range of accommodations available. There are fifteen standard rooms scattered throughout the gardens. The family room known as Bamboo has two rooms separated by a hallway and bathroom. Seven luxury suites are furnished with stylish and comfortable extras such as fireplaces and sunbeds on the terrace. The spacious Garden House has four double bedrooms and plenty of space on two floors including a lounge and dining room. The free-standing family suite farm house has two en suite bedrooms, a dining room, and a living room with a cozy fireplace.

The lodge is situated at a height of 5,000 feet, near the town of Karatu and is only seven miles from Ngorongoro. Created when an ancient volcano erupted and then collapsed upon itself, the crater is now carpeted with expansive grasslands dotted by a few acacia trees. The natural enclosure is home to impressive varieties and concentrations of wildlife including some 25,000 mammals. In addition to the zebra, gazelle, and wildebeest that graze the plains, the region is home to all of Africa’s “big five” mammals: lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant. It is also twenty-one miles from Lake Manyara famous for its tree-climbing lions. It is also a great place to see flamingos, pelicans, hippos, and baboons.

The lodge is the ideal base from which to explore not only Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara but Tarangire National Park and the world-famous Serengeti. Staff at the lodge can help arrange game drives and day trips to explore all these national parks. There are also hiking and mountain biking trails on the forested slopes of Ngorongoro. Hot air balloon rides can be booked for an aerial view of the Serengeti or Tarangire. For those who prefer to stay near the lodge, there are beautiful garden walks and sundowners on the bar’s terrace.

The lodge sits on twenty-four acres of landscaped grounds. The restaurant offers a four-course menu for dinner. Fruit, vegetables, and salad are grown on the premises or are locally sourced as is the meat. There is also a bar with a wine cellar and a large terrace for enjoying drinks outside. The lodge’s pool and sundeck is the perfect place to relax during the afternoon. Guests can even enjoy a massage, pedicure, or manicure. There is even a souvenir shop.
