Tarangire Safari Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Perched at the edge of a natural bluff, Tarangire Safari Lodge is a family-run safari lodge known for its panoramic views of Tarangire National Park.

Accommodations at the lodge range from cozy bungalows to high-ceilinged thatched tents. The tents have thatched roofs and mesh-screened windows. There is a choice of twin, double, and triple rooms. Each tent comes with a en suite bathroom with a solar-heated shower and a private veranda for relaxing and watching the wildlife. The five bungalows are built in the traditional, circular Maasai style. Thick walls of local stone encompass comfortable triple or family suites and include en-suite bathrooms with large showers and solar-heated water. A private veranda overlooks a large waterhole.

Best known for its impressive elephant population, Tarangire National Park is home to large herds totaling nearly 2,500 individuals. The sixth largest national park in Tanzania, it occupies 1,100 square miles to the southwest of Arusha. The park is also famous for its huge number of baobab trees, tree climbing lions, resident zebra, and wildebeest. Plus, the park is a bird-watchers heaven with over 550 species. The swamps are concentrated with the largest selection of breeding birds anywhere in the world and great place to see the yellow-collared lovebirds. A place of widely diverse landscape and vegetation, it encompasses hills dotted with baobabs, dense bush, and high grasses. This varied landscape is also famous for the termite mounds that dot the landscape.

A highlight at Tarangire Safari Lodge is the daily guided game drive in an open safari vehicle, perfect for viewing and photographing the wildlife in their natural habitat. Guided bush walks take a closer look at the local flora and fauna. Night-time drives show what life is like when the bush ‘comes alive’ after dark and what nocturnal animals roam the bush like genets, bush babies, and elusive leopards. A patulivu is a wooden platform overlooking the Tarangire River where guests can have a massage, a yoga, session, foot scrub, or a sundowner.

As the primary gathering area, the main lounge boasts complimentary coffee and tea, expansive views, and a bar with a wide variety of spirits, cocktails, local beers, and wines. There is a comfortable lounge with cozy couches and coffee tables, both handcrafted from recycled hardwood collected from old beached dhows on the Tanzanian coast. A refreshing outdoor pool, outdoor children’s splash pool, and Baobab Boutique offer diversions for guests of all ages. Homestyle safari cuisine is normal fare in the lodge’s open-air dining room. Delicious meals use only the freshest fruits and vegetables, straight from Simba Farm on West Kilimanjaro. At night, the Sunset Sundowner can be enjoyed with complimentary savories on the spacious front terrace before dinner.
