Olmara Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Located in the remote eastern plains of the world-famous Serengeti, Olmara Camp offers an luxury safari experience away from the crowds.

Accommodation at Olmara consists of eight tented suites that include three stargazer tents and one two-family room with a shared bathroom. The sturdy canvas tents feature a large bedroom with a desk and chair, a storage chest, and wardrobe. The comfortable beds have soft cotton sheets and warm duvets. Accessed through a separate door, each tent includes an en suite bathroom with ceramic sinks, a vanity mirror, a running shower, and a flush toilet. The tents are decorated in neutral tones to blend into the natural environment. A private patio area includes a table and chair for relaxing outside and taking in the stunning Serengeti landscape.

The camp is located in the less-trafficked Soit le Motonyi region in the rugged, eastern section of the Serengeti. The camp is appropriately named “Olmara,” meaning cheetah in the Maa language. The region is teeming with prides of lion and large packs of hyena, while solitary cheetah and leopard confidently stride across the savanna. The acacia woodlands border grasslands where elephants, giraffes, zebras, and warthogs come to graze.

Game drives are offered twice daily and led by knowledgeable guides and trackers through the east-central Serengeti. For an even more intimate look at the local flora and fauna, the camp has guided walking safaris. Led by an armed walking guide, these informative nature walks follow animal tracks at dawn and dusk out of the heat of the day. For an additional fee, a hot air balloon safari provides an aerial view of the Serengeti plains and is followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush. There are also cultural tours available to local villages and schools.

The camp runs on solar power, and battery charging facilities and wireless internet are available. Meals are served in the common mess tent, and the camp is happy to accommodate guests with mobility issues by assigning them rooms closest to the mess tent. For adventurous days, lunches are included on game drives and there is always the option for a bush breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
