Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Set along a tributary of the Grumeti River in the remote western reaches of the Serengeti National Park, Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge offers a refined safari experience in one of the park’s quieter regions

Its location in the Western Corridor provides a more exclusive atmosphere, with fewer vehicles and expansive plains rich in wildlife.

The area is known for strong year-round game viewing, including large resident lion prides and diverse plains game. Hippo pods gather in the river directly below the lodge, and black-and-white colobus monkeys – a rare sight in much of the Serengeti – are often seen in the surrounding riverine forest. Between June and July, the seasonal movement of the Great Migration typically passes through this region. Rather than promising guaranteed river crossings, the lodge offers interpretive guiding that provides context to the migration’s rhythms and predator-prey interactions.

The lodge features ten luxury suites, including a spacious family suite ideal for multigenerational travel. Each suite is elevated above the riverbank and includes a private plunge pool, expansive deck, indoor and outdoor showers, and sweeping river views, creating a private vantage point for observing wildlife throughout the day.

Design elements pay homage to Maasai culture and regional craftsmanship, with architectural forms inspired by traditional manyattas and interiors incorporating earthy textures and handwoven fabrics. The aesthetic is contemporary yet rooted in place.

Twice-daily game drives explore the Western Corridor’s open plains and riverine forest, an area known for predator activity and seasonal migration movement. Optional experiences such as hot air balloon safaris can be arranged for a broader perspective over the Serengeti landscape.

Dining is both refined and interactive, with an open kitchen concept, freshly baked breads, vibrant seasonal cuisine, and atmospheric boma dinners beneath the stars. Afternoons may be spent poolside overlooking the river or enjoying in-suite wellness treatments.

Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge is particularly well suited for travelers seeking a quieter Serengeti experience, couples desiring privacy, and families wanting generous space without compromising wildlife access.
