Ngorongoro Crater Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Ngorongoro Crater Camp is ideally situated in the rim valley close to the crater floor for unrivaled access to the Crater’s best viewing spots.

Accommodations at the camp consist of ten classic safari tents. Each of these luxury canvas tents includes comfy beds, a small sitting area, and such amenities as hairdryers and plug points. The en-suite bathrooms come with traditional bucket showers filled with water adjusted to each guest’s personal preference by their room attendant. At the front of each tent is a small wooden deck for relaxing and taking in the natural beauties of Ngorongoro.

The camp is located in the rim valley of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area close to the access road to the Crater. Situated within northern Tanzania’s Serengeti Plains about 100 miles west of Arusha, Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Created when an ancient volcano erupted and then collapsed upon itself, the crater is now carpeted with expansive grasslands dotted by a few acacia trees. The natural enclosure is home to impressive varieties and concentrations of wildlife including some 25,000 mammals. In addition to the zebra, gazelle, and wildebeest that graze the plains, the region is home to all of Africa’s “big five” mammals: lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant. The uniqueness of the crater’s topography and the accessibility of its wildlife make it a prime tourist destination in northern Tanzania.

One game drive to the crater floor is included with every stay. These game drives are conducted by expert guides in the early morning and late afternoon for the best views of the ample wildlife roaming the crater. For those guests staying more than two nights, there is an added game drive to beautiful Lake Manyara National Park which is known for its tree-climbing lions and soda-ass lake blanketed by a sea of pink flamingoes. Cultural visits to local Maasai villages are available to learn about their rich culture and traditions.

The camp’s main area includes a bar, an inviting lounge, and a dining area. There are also several well-placed couches set around the camp for ideal wildlife viewing and relaxation. Guest can enjoy a delicious packed breakfast or lunch depending on their game drive time. While dinner is served buffet-style with several tables set at individual tables scattered around the camp for added intimacy and unique viewpoints.
