Mnemba Island

PLAN MY TRIP

With the Indian Ocean and the pristine white sandy beaches of Mnemba Island Lodge at your doorstep, you can bask in the romance and exclusive luxury of this eco-friendly paradise and imagine yourself on your own tropical island.

A small, exclusive beachfront property, up to twenty guests may stay in one of the ten beachside bandas. These open-air villas made from canvas, grass, and reeds all feature a large, detached bathroom with a stunning stone shower. Guests can enjoy an ocean lullaby as they sleep on the room’s large plush, king-sized beds and natural fiber bedding as the overhead fans waft an ocean breeze over them. For those guests traveling with children, there is a family banda consisting of two bandas near each other and accommodates a family of four. Each banda has its own private veranda or barazas, the Swahili word for meeting place for guests to relax and watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean. Most importantly, each banda has direct access to the private beach.

Located north-east of the Zanzibar coast and situated in a coral atoll in the Mnemba Island Marine Conservation area, Mnemba Lodge is an ideal sanctuary for wildlife and guests alike. The warm Indian Ocean plays host to a wide variety of reef fish, anemone, and marine mammals. The lodge practices and promotes ecotourism. Their partnership with Oceans Without Borders allows them to monitor and protect the endangered green turtles who return each year to their island breeding ground. On this island paradise, guests can watch dolphins play in the surf from their private veranda or even feed wandering Suni antelope or see Ader’s Duiker while enjoying the luxury and comfort of an all-inclusive resort. No wonder it’s a favorite beachside escape for Bill Gates and family.

A variety of water sports are included at the resort. For those wishing to explore the wide variety of water life, the lodge offers scuba diving with up to 2 dives per day with full PADI certification required. For beginners or those wishing to brush up on their skills, dive courses are available for an additional cost. Snorkeling is a great choice for those guests wishing to discover the shallow coral reefs and clear, turquoise waters of the island. Protected by reefs, the quiet waters provide the perfect place to kayak or stand-up paddle board and encounter a pod of dolphins or sea turtles up close. Along the northern point of the island, fishing aficionados can practice their fly-fishing skills, though the lodge encourages a catch and release policy to ensure the sustainability of the wide variety of fish life found off the island. Or guests can enjoy a massage on the beach or book a tour of the island or the Serengeti too.

Guests can watch the sun set, as they eat sumptuous chef-prepared meals under an open-thatched dining area. An all-inclusive property, meals and soft drinks are included and served either beachside or on the beach. Guests can relax on soft pillows and eat off low wooden tables while listening to the surf or watching the crabs scuttle across the beach. In addition to which, each banda comes with a private butler to further cater to the guests.
