Fundu Lagoon

PLAN MY TRIP

Located on the remote white sandy beaches of Pemba Island in the Indian Ocean, Fundu Lagoon is an intimate boutique hotel with some of the best diving in the world.

Accommodations consist of only eighteen tented safari style bungalows with some scattered on the beach and some on the hillside. Every thatched room enjoys ocean views and complete privacy. The rooms are furnished with either one double bed or two twins, plus an additional single bed is available upon request. The hillside rooms take advantage of the cool ocean breezes and have their own wooden deck with chairs and sun loungers. The beachfront rooms also have their own private deck and sun loungers on the white sand. While the Beach, Jungle, and Superior suites come with a plunge pool.

The hotel is ideally located on Pemba island which can only be accessed by a boat or plane ride from Zanzibar. Pemba Island is part of the Zanzibar archipelago and smaller than its sister island Unguja. A hilly and fertile island with rainforest forests, mangrove ecosystems, and beaches; the air in Pemba is permeated with the fragrance of spices from the clove plantations. Once owned by the Sultan of Muscat until the British interfered. The island was part of the Spice trade and is known for its voodoo practices and traditional healers. The coral reefs around the island are home to a multitude of marine life.

World-class snorkeling and diving can be experienced in the coral reefs around Pemba. Dive 710 is even a PADI 5-Star Dive Resort. Other exciting water-based activities include wake-boarding, wind surfing, kayaking, or just swimming. Nearby Misali Island is just a boat ride away and home to green and hawksbill turtles. Anglers can eagerly help catch fish for the chef. A mangrove canoe trip is an ideal way to explore the plants and animals of this coastal ecosystem. The ruins of Jambangome beckon the curious to come examine the ancient capital of Pemba. Bird lovers can take a trip to the Ngezi Forest for a picnic in the rainforest. For a cultural tour, guests can visit the local village with the help of a staff member from the hotel. While a sunset cruise on a traditional white-sailed dhow is the perfect way to end the day.

The main thatched roof areas are open to the cool breezes and inviting views and house three bars and a wonderful restaurant. The hotel’s infinity pool keeps everyone cool while the Fusion Spa helps guests to unwind with a wide menu of pampering treatments. Wooden walkways and sandy paths lead from the central area to the rooms.
