Fumba Beach Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Located on one of Zanzibar’s most pristine private beaches, Fumba Beach Lodge is tranquil paradise on the world-famous spice isle.

Accommodations at the lodge consist of twenty-six luxurious bandas. The charming Sea View Rooms come with a double bed that can be converted into two twins. While the Garden View Rooms are furnished with a king-sized bed. The stunning Luxury Suites feature a king-sized bed, private roof terrace, and a magnificent en suite bathroom complete with a deep, soaking tub and Frank Lloyd Wright inspired outdoor shower that leads right onto the beach. Yet, the lodge’s ultimate experience can be had in the Baobab Suite. This unique room is built around a 300-year-old baobab tree and boasts an outdoor shower. Every room comes with air-conditioning and a private veranda.

The lodge is located on the Fumba Beach peninsula, in the Menai Bay Conservation Area which houses a large marine sanctuary. The World Wildlife Federation designated the peninsula an area of outstanding natural beauty in 1998. The property is sheltered by three natural coves. However, the lodge is only thirty minutes away from Stone Town. Zanzibar was once the world’s largest producer of cloves, this spice island also provided nutmeg and cinnamon to Europe, the Middle East, and China for over 500 years. Originally founded by Africans, the island was discovered by the Persians in the 10th century. Since then it has had a strong Arabic influence. The sultan of Oman even relocated his capital here.

The lodge takes full-advantage of its island setting and offers many water sports. The Fumba Watersports Dive Center has experienced instructors who teach all levels in scuba diving. In addition, there is also snorkeling, sailing, wind surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, kite surfing, biking, and volleyball available. Island tours explore the Jozani Forest, home of the endangered Zanzibar red colobus monkey. Dolphin tours even provide the opportunity to swim with these highly intelligent creatures. For some more culture, the hotel offers a Stone Town tour to see the House of Wonders, Sultan’s Palace, spice markets, and other historic sites.

The lodge’s central area houses an open-air restaurant and bar serving up delicious local and international cuisine. The cool and inviting swimming pool looks out onto the beautiful turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. While the serene Baobab spa offers up relaxing massages, feet and hand beauty treatments, a soothing jacuzzi, and henna painting. There are also several romantic and secluded spots scattered throughout the property promoting the ultimate peace and relaxation.
