Perched on the remote northern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, Entamanu Private offers an off-the-beaten-path Ngorongoro experience.

Entamanu Private is so named because it has just four rooms. In contrast with the tented rooms of its sister camp (Entamanu Ngorongoro), the rooms at Entamanu Private are constructed of primarily of wood and glass, as well as stretched canvas. Each room has heating, which finds use year-round in this remote, high altitude, windswept environment. The en-suite bathrooms have hot and cold running water and flush toilets. Two of the rooms are family units, which are comprised of two bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom.

The camp is perfectly situated on the rim of the legendary Ngorongoro Crater, which is a large, unbroken, non-flooded volcanic caldera that is now home to large populations of zebra and wildebeest, as well as lions and endangered black rhino. Surrounded by volcanic peaks and nestled within a grove of acacia trees swathed in feathery moss, the camp looks out towards the sunrise over the crater.

Game drives into the crater are a requirement of any stay, and the camp is just a thirty-minute-drive from the descent gate. But Entamanu’s location in the northern highlands permits a wide and unique variety of other activities. Led by a local Maasai guide, guests can take walks along the rim of the crater and into the surrounding highlands. Bush walks are about slowing the pace down and soaking the beauty in the small, unnoticed flora and fauna missed from the vehicles, and guests will learn all about medicinal plants, Maasai beliefs, as well as track any local wildlife that has wondered close to camp. The camp is also fortunate to have exclusive access to some remote Maasai communities, allowing for exclusive and authentic cultural interactions.

In the evenings, inviting fires burn in the hearths of the cozy lounge and dining room. Communal dining and a bar are available from the main area as well as battery charging facilities. Integral to the camp’s ethos, the entire camp is completely removable with no truly permanent structures. The camp strives to leave a zero footprint on the natural habitat.
