Olare Mara

PLAN MY TRIP

Surrounded by vast game-rich plains, Olare Mara is a five-star safari camp set within its own private conservancy.

Accommodations consist of twelve deluxe tents set on raised wooden platforms floating above the savanna. Ach elegant, canvas tent is decorated in a vintage Edwardian hunting safari-style and comes with either a king or two twin beds, a separate living room and bedroom area, and a wrap-around deck with plenty of seating. The en suite bathrooms feature over-sized bathtubs perfecting for soaking away the dust and a shower. There is also a honeymoon suite with a fabulous claw-foot tub, his and hers vanities, and both an indoor and outdoor shower as well as a private plunge pool on the deck. There are two interconnected tents for use by families.

The camp is located within the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy which is comprised of 35,000 acres of game-rich savanna within the greater Maasai Mara eco-system. Within the conservancy lies the lower valleys of the Olare Orok and Ntiakitiak rivers as well as extensive areas of riverine forest. Over ninety-five species of mammals call this area home including elephant, buffalo, hippo, Masai giraffe, topi, Coke’s hartebeest, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle, zebra, impala, Kirk’s dik-dik, bushbuck, waterbuck, red duiker, baboon, vervet monkey, blue monkey, red-tailed monkey, nocturnal bush baby, and tree hyrax. Over 550 bird species have been spotted here including five species that are globally threatened. The conservancy benefits both the local Maasai people and the wildlife.

The camp provides both and day and night-game drives led by expert guides and trackers. The benefit to being in a private conservancy means not having to share a game drive with a host of other vehicles as there are only four vehicles allowed to go out at a time. Safari walks are the perfect way to get up-close and personal with the local flora and fauna with the help of an expert guide. While horse safaris provide a unique view of the area and are only allowed within the conservancy. For a cultural experience, there are excursions to a local Maasai village. For an additional fee, there are hot air balloon safaris available.

The main area of camp includes a central lounge and dining area which dishes up sumptuous meals under candlelit. A timbered bridge leads from the lounge to a unique forest glade to a tented bar with a traditional campfire. A central pool sits within the shade and invites guests to cool off after a game drive.
