Speke’s Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Located on private land on the eastern edge of the Masai Mara Reserve, Speke’s Camp is a classic yet affordable safari destination.

Accommodations at the camp consist of eight comfortable safari tents. Each tent comes with either twin or double beds, a closet, luggage rack, desk, and an inviting seating area. The spacious en suite bathrooms feature traditional safari bucket showers, hot water and flushing toilets. There are two large family pods available for a family getaway or larger groups. Canvas chairs are set up under a shaded awning making it the perfect spot to drink a morning coffee while taking in the beauties of the Masai Mara.

The camp sits on the eastern edge of the magnificent and game-rich Masai Mara Reserve. It overlooks the Olare Orok River and is bordered by the Mara North Conservancy and Olare Orok Conservancy. The Reserve occupies 938-square miles of pristine wilderness and is well-known for its hilly grasslands fed by plentiful rains and home for a wide array of wildlife from the Big Five to herds of migrating wildebeest. Every year from July to November, the Masai Mara witnesses the Great Migration where millions of wildebeests and thousands of zebras cross the pains in search of new pastures with their predators the lions, leopards, and hyenas hard on their hooves.

Daily game drives within the reserve are at the convenience and desires of the guests. There is no set time, just a dedicated vehicle and expert guide ready to go whenever adventure calls. A bush breakfast overlooking the plains or a picnic lunch out in the bush lets visitors enjoy a delicious meal without interrupting the journey.

The camp’s central mess tent boasts a spacious interior, a vast library of books on Kenyan history and wildlife and plenty of comfy spots to relax in. A new ‘chill out’ tent includes Wi-Fi and a stunning view of the river. Delicious, health, and wholesome meals are served under the shade of ancient trees or the light of a starry sky. There is even a cozy bar in the mess tent. At night, everyone gathers with a drink and story to share around the warmth of the campfire.
