Loldia House

PLAN MY TRIP

Loldia House is the perfect spot to enjoy Kenyan country life and the beauties of the Great Rift Valley.

Accommodations consist of choice between the old family house of the idyllic cottages in the grounds. In the main house, four en-suite double rooms are furnished in the style of the original settlers. The cottages include two en-suite rooms in a lush, garden setting. For honeymooners, a newly-built cottage on the lakeshore includes two independent en-suite double rooms with breathtaking views across the lake to the extinct volcano, Mount Longonot. For families and groups, the specially built Loldia cottage sits on a hill offers three double rooms and comes with its own sitting room with open log fire and panoramic views across the lake. Each room’s en suite bathroom features a bath, shower, basin, flush toilet, hot and cold running water.

Loldia House is only a two-hour drive from Nairobi. It is located on a private farm of some 6,500 acres on the north-western part of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley. Lake Naivasha is the highest and purest lake in Kenya. The house is ideally situated to visit the flamingo lakes of Nakuru, Elementaita and Bogoria. In fact, over 400 species of birds have been seen in the Rift Valley. Within the Great Rift Valley itself, there are beautiful views of the dormant volcano, Mount Longonot.

There is a wealth of activities available. Day and night game drives take in the local wildlife found on the ranch. At night, bat eared foxes, aardvarks, leopard, long tailed mongooses, spring hares, nightjars and eagle owls as well as hippos can be spotted leaving the lake to graze. Day trips are offered to Lake Nakuru National Park with its colorful flamingoes and abundant rhino or to Hells Gate National Park with its steam geysers and cliff sides full of birds of prey. Mountain climbers can try their hand at tackling the demanding hike up Mount Longonot. Other activities include a boat tour of Lake Naivusha, a walk and picnic on Crescent Island, guided walks around Crater Lake, a trip to Lake Bogoria, community visits to Loldia School, and a visit to a flower farm.

The common areas of the farmhouse include a comfortable, colonial-style dining room and a colonial lounge with a fireplace. Breakfast and lunch are served under a spreading fig tree in the garden. There is a small curio shop open daily for souvenirs. Wild animals roam free on the farm and in the evenings hippo munch quietly by the waterside.
