Ololo Safari Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Situated within Nairobi National Park, Ololo Safari Lodge offers warm and homey comforts with personalized service.

Guests can choose from an array of rooming options at Ololo. The Terrace Suite provides a traditional living area with comfy armchairs and an open fireplace, colonial furnishings, flowers from the garden, and an inviting marble bathroom with a classic roll-top bath. Its private terrace is the perfect spot to relax or enjoy a cozy dinner for two. Located in the stone tower, the aptly named Tower Suite has gorgeous views across the park and the famed Ngong Hills. This light and airy suite features hand-crafted furniture made on site. The three Tented Cottages offer a true bush experience, encompassed within canvas and stone walls and under a traditional makuti thatch roof. The seven Stable Rooms have en-suite bathrooms and overlook the lush gardens, a popular place for butterflies and birds. The three-bedroom Stable Cottage used to be a hay shed but now sleeps up to six guests. It has two bathrooms, a kitchen, and large outdoor terrace, making it perfect for families.

The lodge is owned by an Australian farming family. It is set on twenty acres of beautiful, well-established gardens on the southern edge of the Nairobi National Park. The park’s 45 square miles are home to a varied wildlife population which includes lion, giraffe, leopard, rhino, hippo, zebra, buffalo, gazelle, antelope, and over 400 recorded bird species. Many of the birds can be seen from the comfort of the Ololo’s terrace and restaurant.

A colonial farmhouse with a modern and eclectic style, Ololo Safari Lodge gives off a warm, elegant feel and abounds with areas to relax. The chefs at Ololo take advantage of the lodge’s vegetable gardens and fresh eggs as well as other seasonal ingredient to cook up delicious meals. The lodge’s breads, cakes, and pastries are baked in-house too. Meals are often set up on the vine-covered terrace or under the old acacia trees in the garden. The bar is stocked with local beers, wines, and spirits. In the evening, guests can enjoy a pre-dinner drink around the pool or on the terrace as the sun goes down over the Ngong Hills. The eco-friendly lodge practices recycling and sustainable tourism.

A variety of activities can be booked from the lodge. Game drives int the park are included with any stay. Guests can have the lodge take them out of the park to enjoy a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum, the Kenyan home of the baroness and Danish author of Out of Africa. The Giraffe Center in Langata is a sanctuary for the local Rothschild giraffes, and visitors can feed the giraffes from a raised observation platform. For those more into adorable pachyderms, the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage allows people “adopt” baby elephants and to learn how this unique organization cares for orphaned elephants. At Anselm Kitengela Hot Glass craftsmen blow glass in the dome-shaped foundry building.
