Basecamp Masai Mara

Set on the banks of the Talek River, Basecamp Masai Mara is a charming, eco-friendly camp with easy access to Masai Mara National Reserve.

Accommodations at the camp consist of seventeen luxury tents bordering the riverbanks. Each spacious canvas tent is furnished with comfy beds and the option for twins, doubles, or triples. There are two Family Riverside Tents for those traveling with children which include two separate wings each with a double bed. The en suite bathroom features a double vanity, both an indoor and outdoor al fresco shower heated by solar power, and a bio-flush toilet. Plus, the outdoor wooden terrace is shaded and set with a small table and chairs as well as a sofa for relaxing and enjoying the birdsong with a morning cup of coffee.

The camp is located on the banks of the Talek River, right in the heart of the Mara Triangle just a small distance from the famous Masaai Mara National Reserve. It is here in late July to November that the annual great migration takes place in dramatic fashion when millions of wildebeests and thousands of zebras and Thomsons gazelles flood the savanna in search of new pastures with their predators hard on their hoofs. As the herds thunder across the Mara River, waiting crocodiles snap a chance at a meal. Ninety-five species of mammals live in the Masai Mara including lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, and rhinos as well as 550 species of birds.

There are many exciting activities available at the camp. Shared game drives are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon in comfortable 4×4 vehicles and led by knowledgeable Maasai guides and trackers for the best viewing of the annual migration. Bird walking safaris travel along the Talek River for a chance to spot some of the wonderful endemic birds as well as admire the lush beauty resulting from the camp’s tree planting campaign, one of their big conservation projects. Cultural visits take in the Talek Town to discover the rich heritage of the Maasai people. For an additional fee, there are other activities nearby such as hot air balloon rides.

The main area of camp houses a lounge area, bar, and restaurant Delicious, chef-created meals can be enjoyed communally in the restaurant of privately on the viewing deck and its stunning river vistas. There is a Kiddies Club for the little ones to enjoy their own activities. There are even babysitting services available upon request.
