Governors’ Private Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

The jewel of the Governor’s Camp properties, Governor’s Private Camp is an exclusive, luxury tent camp overlooking the beautiful and game-rich Mara River.

For complete privacy, the camp can either be booked by one family or group at a time and consists of 6 tents with a minimum of two nights stay. Though individual tents can also be booked on a tent by tent basis to share with others. These luxury tents feature hand-made furniture and comfy beds. The bathrooms have hot and cold running water, shower, basins, and flush-toilets. The tents are positioned on wooden platforms with extended verandahs fitted with comfortable chairs for lounging in and enjoying the verdant views of the riverbank and abundant, roaming wildlife. The tents come with their own lounging areas, Wi-Fi, dressing gowns, and have electric lights.

Created in 1972, Governors’ Camp lies in the forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, it’s waters swarming with bird-life, hippo, and crocodile, in the heart of Kenya’s grand Masai Mara National Reserve. The Reserve is well-known for its hilly grasslands fed by plentiful rains and home for a wide array of wildlife from the Big Five to herds of migrating wildebeest. The forest itself is home to many beautiful birds from rare Trogans and Turacos to nesting Hornbills. The camp also supports several conservation projects and community support programs.

Activities at the private camp and nearby main camp are plentiful. Highly-trained and experienced guides head up daily game drives in custom-made vehicles to some of the best viewing areas in the Reserve. Hot air balloon rides offer an aerial view of the stunning landscapes below. Walking safaris take place in a private concession area adjacent to the Masai Mara Game Reserve giving a different view and experience than found on game drives. Maasai cultural visits to Mara Rianda, a traditional community, show a way of life almost virtually unchanged for centuries. The camp can also arrange overnight trips to the beautiful unspoilt Island of Mfangano on Lake Victoria.

Guests can enjoy the new bar and dining tent overlooking the lovely Mara River. All drinks are free except for the champagne. Delicious food is served on fine china and crystal. Meals can even be tailored to individual palates by the Executive Chef who is known for making sinful desserts. The manager here plays host and provides attentive service. The nearby main Governor’s Camp has been the base for the B.B.C.’s famous Big Cat diaries series which have made the plains of East Africa so famous.
