House of Waine

PLAN MY TRIP

Once a gracious private home, House of Waine is now an intimate and unique boutique hotel in the quiet Nairobi suburb of Karen.

Accommodations at the hotel consist of ten standard rooms and the Malaika Suite. Each room is individually styled and given a name to reflect its unique character. Nine of the rooms can be converted to either single, double, or twin rooms. Most of the marble en suite bathrooms feature a separate shower and bathtub. The air-conditioned rooms also come with a satellite television, coffee/tea facilities, mini safe, mini bar, and hairdryers. The elegant Malaika Suite included two lounge areas, a separate dressing room, a large bathroom with a unique spherical bathtub, and a balcony with a spectacular view of the pool and gardens.

As Kenya’s capital, Nairobi is a modern and multi-ethnic metropolis and home to more than four million people. Once a swamp area, the word Nairobi means cool waters in Maasai, it became the capital of the British East Africa Protectorate. Now it’s a cosmopolitan and culturally vibrant city and boasts many theaters, concerts, and fine dining as well as plenty of clubs, casinos, coffee shops and malls to keep the global traveler entertained. Just outside the city is Nairobi National Park home to large herds of zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, giraffe, lion, cheetah, hippo, rhino, and over 400 species of bird life. Visitors can go on the Nairobi Safari Walk, an educational center to make people aware of wildlife and habitat conservation.

Guests can enjoy a trip to visit the Karen Blixen Museum, the Kenyan home of the baroness and Danish author of Out of Africa. The Giraffe Center in Langata is a sanctuary for the local Rothschild giraffes, visitors can feed the giraffes from a raised observation platform. For those more into adorable pachyderms, Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage lets people adopt a baby elephant. A trip to Anselm Kitengela Hot Glass is where craftsmen blow glass in the dome-shaped foundry building. Also, trip to local markets and museums in Nairobi can be arranged with the hotel.

Within the communal area of the hotel lies a comfy lounge with an inviting fireplace to gather around at night. The hotel’s breakfast terrace overlooks the gardens. While the dining room dishes up a variety of delicious cuisines including local specialties. Cocktails and lunch can be enjoyed at the pool pavilion overlooking the large, heated pool. The hotel’s property encompasses 2.5 acres including beautifully landscape gardens making the House of Waine a quiet retreat from the hustle and noise of the city.
