Loisaba Tented Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Sweeping views of magnificent Mount Kenya and the opportunity to sleep under the stars in a romantic one-of-a-kind “starbed” are just two of the unique experiences awaiting guests of Loisaba Tented Camp.

Opened in May 2016, accommodations at the camp consist of twelve spacious and airy tents. The custom-built tents feature large top-to-bottom doors and windows, high ceilings, and polished wood floors. Decorated in African chic furnishings with a modern European twist, the tents include an en suite bathroom with flush toilets, double-sink vanity, and solar-heated hot water cascading from a rainfall shower. Loisaba also has three family tent combinations comprised of two large tents adjoined by a walkway, with one tent a double, and the other a convertible twin/double. For added privacy and relaxation, each tent has its own veranda and grassed area in front of the tent.

The camp is perched on the edge of an escarpment with unhindered views across the Laikipia plateau all the way to Mount Kenya. Its 61,000 acres of private game reserve combines with Samburu tribal lands to form the Laikipia plateau. The Ewaso Nyiro River forms the southern boundary of Loisaba, which is located in the heart of the Laikipia plateau. Laikipia is currently home to the largest population of elephant in Kenya. The area also has the most stable lion population. Other species spotted here include the seldom seen greater kudu and wild dog.

Day and night game drives, guided bush and bird walks, bush meals, and sundowners provide abundant opportunities for game viewing. The endangered African wild dogs, as well as Africa’s “big five,” make their homes in the area. Guests enjoy seeing rhino, elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and many other animals in their protected, natural environment. Other popular activities, some only seasonal, include horseback riding, camel safaris, four-wheeling, river rafting, fishing, helicopter excursions, and cultural visits. The camp’s starbed is a large, open, elevated platform with a specially designed bed for sleeping under the stars and includes a bathroom. Twenty minutes from Loisaba Lodge, Kiboko starbeds overlook a large waterhole, providing exclusive game viewing. Koija starbeds are about thirty minutes from the lodge and overlook the impressive Ewaso Nyiro River.

The main areas of the camp include a large open dining area, separate open lounge and bar, and a large wooden decking area for outside dining, relaxing and enjoying the view. The camp’s picturesque infinity pools is the perfect spot to cool off during the heat of the day.
