Verney’s Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Verney’s Camp offers classic and comfortable safari accommodations in the game-rich Hwange National Park.

Accommodations at the camp consist of ten spacious, luxury tents for a maximum of twenty-four guests set on raised wooden decks to minimize the environmental impact and maximize the views of the bush. There is a choice between double or twin beds and two of the tents will cater to families. The tents will include an en suite bathroom with a double vanity, shower, plenty of hot and cold running water, and a flush toilet.

The camp is located in the southeastern section of Hwange National Park on its own 24,710-acre private concession. Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s largest and most popular national park. The Park is located between Bulawayo and Victoria Falls and is most famous as a home to 30,000 elephants, although countless other animal species inhabit this rich panorama of acacia woodland and sands. The vegetation across the park vary hugely, ranging from the semi desert scrub on the edge of the Kalahari in the south, to forests, granite hills, and valleys of mopane woodlands in the north. There is an abundance of wildlife found in the park year-round including lion, buffalo, cheetah leopard, spotted hyena, cheetah, giraffe, sable, roan, blue wildebeest, impala, waterbuck and reedbuck.

Game drives are conducted in open Land Rovers by expert guides and trackers through Hwange. Morning walking safaris led by a knowledgeable guide and an armed ranger are the best way to see the landscape in detail and view any smaller flora or fauna missed by the vehicles. Night drives discover the nocturnal world of lesser bush baby, spotted hyena, leopard, lion, caracal, porcupine, scrub hare, springhare, and even honey badger. With such open skies above, stargazing is a popular pastime here.

The tents are connected to the main camp via pathways that meander under the shade of teak trees. The main area and inviting firepit overlook a busy waterhole which teems with wildlife during the drier months.
