Little Vundu

PLAN MY TRIP

Upstream from the main Vundu Camp on the banks of the Zambezi River, Little Vundu Camp provides a classic tent camp safari experience of yesteryear.

Accommodations at the camp consists of five spacious meru-style canvas tents set amid groves of sausage and ebony trees. Guests sleep in blissful comfort listening to nature’s lullaby on cozy twin beds with quilted duvets decorated with safari animals. Each tent is furnished with an open-air en suite bathroom with flush toilets and al fresco bucket showers. Other amenities include fans and outside sitting on outside shaded verandas while taking in the wild beauty and animals of the river bank. The tents are linked by wooden footbridges to the main camp preserving the integrity of the environment.

The camp is situated in Mana Pool National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its lions, leopards, and hyenas. It is also part of the Zambezi Valley, a western extension of the Great Rift Valley. Wild dogs frequently pass through the camp. A channel of the Zambezi runs through the camp and provides a favorite drinking spot for the elephants. The camp stands only 75km from the river giving off stunning views across islands, grass plains, and onto the escarpment on the Zambian side of the river.

Several activities are available from the camp. Morning or afternoon game drives bring guests up close and personal with spectacular sightings of wide range of animals from lions, leopards, elephants, water buffalo, eland, kudu, to waterbucks. Armed bushwalks afford a closer look at smaller game that might be missed from the vehicles, guides follow animal tracks to the Mana Pools. Perfectly positioned on the Zambezi River, the camp offers half-day or full-day canoe trips on the Lower Zambezi for amazing views of hippos and crocodiles. The river also provides the perfect spot to cast a lure and practice fishing skills. All activities benefit from the guiding expertise of owner Nick Murray’s and his Zim-pros of knowledgeable, freelance guides.

The main lodge is divided by a foot bridge over the water channel with tents on one-side and a pole and canvas dining area on the other side. A private chef cooks up healthy breakfasts and al fresco lunches which are served in the open-air dining room shaded by acacia trees, whose pods invite elephants to enjoy their own inviting snacks. Dinners are held under the opulence of the night sky. Owner Nick Murray is known for his warm hospitality and attention to guest’s needs making them feel right at home in the wilds of Africa.
