Little Ruckomechi

PLAN MY TRIP

Located within the private Ruckomechi Concession of Mana Pools National Park, Little Ruckomechi is an authentic, exclusive, and stylish bush camp with all the comforts of home.

Accommodations at the camp consist of three or four airy and elegant tents set on wooden decks. The tents channel the style of a bygone explorer’s era in a beautiful blend of canvas and wood interiors. Each tent includes a private en suite bathroom with a double vanity, flush toilets, and a shower. They also include a writing desk and chair, electronic safe, tea and coffee making facilities, charging station, and ceiling fan. For panoramic views of the Zambezi River, as well as the perfect spot to unwind after an adventure, each tent comes with a private veranda.

The camp enjoys the exclusive rewards of being set in the private Ruckomechi Concession. The great Zambezi River with its large population of hippos and the beautiful Zambian foothills can be seen in the distance. It also lies within the greater Mana Pool National Park at the heart of the Zambezi Valley. The area is famous for its large concentrations of buffalo and elephant, while predators such as lion, wild dog, leopard and cheetah are often sighted here too. Wildlife on the surrounding plains include Greater kudu, Burchell’s zebra, impala, warthog, and common waterbuck. An abundance of birdlife lives here like the collared palm-thrush, racket-tailed roller, three-banded courser, western banded snake-eagle, Arnot’s chat, green-capped eremomela, African golden oriole, Lilian’s lovebird, Böhm’s spinetail, and Meve’s starling.

Many exciting activities are offered at the camp. Game drives early in the morning or late afternoon are conducted by expert rangers in open 4X4 vehicles within the Ruckomechi Concession, taking in a coffee break or a sundowner at a scenic spot. Night drives are also available. The vehicles use a red-filtered spotlight to ensure disturbance of the game is kept to a minimum. Boat cruises down this stretch of the Zambezi River take in the life in, on, and around this iconic river including grunting hippos and bathing elephants. A more adventurous option is a canoe trip for a closer view of the water birds and other wildlife. Nature walks led by an expert guide provide an intimate and up close view of the surrounding bush. Catch and release fishing on the Zambezi include a chance at hooking a tilapia, barbel, and tigerfish.

Set amongst the iconic albida trees that characterize the region, the camp is built on wooden decks. The main area includes a comfy lounge for relaxing in and a dining room, both with open views of the river and bush. The plunge pool is a great place to cool off and play after a dusty game drive. There is also a bar. A battery charging station is set in the main area. Complimentary laundry service is available as well.
