Zimbabwe

Hwange Walking Safari

PLAN MY TRIP

An authentic safari combining walking and vehicle exploration through the stunning wilds of Zimbabwe, Hwange Walking Safari is a thrilling trek off the beaten path through Hwange and the private Linkwasha Concession.

This exciting adventure is offered in July through September and requires a minimum of two people with a maximum of seven to start. It begins in Davidson’s Camp for a five day/four night walking adventure that ends at the luxurious Linkwasha Camp. As a set-departure guided journey, the fully inclusive rates include the expertise of a knowledgeable and professional guide who leads the trek from beginning to end, combined with tailor-made services like logistics, sightseeing, and accommodation in the camps.

Day one eases adventurers in with an open-game vehicle ride from the Linkwasha Airstrip to Davidson’s Camp for the first night. Day two begins after breakfast with an exciting walk to Scott’s Pan. The route travels through varied woodland habitats and vlei lines, home to a wide variety of wildlife and birds. After a well-deserved lunch and siesta at Scott’s Pan, the journey continues further afield either on foot or in a vehicle before returning at sunset for dinner. Day three kicks off with a short game ride to Back Pans. Then it’s a walk to the abundant Ngamo Plains to investigate the combretum, terminalia, teak, and acacia woodlands along the way. Lunch and siesta are followed by either a game drive or walk and ends with a delicious dinner and another night in the wilderness. Day four sets off for the luxurious Linkwasha Camp, taking in the area on foot and by vehicle. Walking in the beautiful acacia forest fringes of the Ngamo Plains is a highlight before spending the night in the luxurious Linkwasha Camp.

A fully-serviced camp, the staff takes care of everything. The first night is spent at the lovely Davidson’s Camp nestled under false Mopane trees. It is a classic tented camp with en suite canvas tents. The main area includes a spacious lounge and dining room which leads out onto an expansive pine deck and an open campfire area. The refreshing pool and its loungers are beautifully positioned for idle relaxation, while a small upper deck is an idyllic location from which to watch wildlife at the waterhole.

The next two nights are spent in the wilderness in dome tents under the stars with access to viewing platforms. Finally, the last night is spent at Linwasha Camp, a luxury tent camp that stands sentry over a magnificent plain and a pan that is a magnet for game year-round. Comfortable canvas tents with private en suite bathrooms and verandas overlook the plains. While the main area which includes various multi-level decks, a pool area, a winter lounge, and a library gazes over the abundant waterhole. The rates include the accommodations, all meals, a reasonable amount of soft drinks, water, house wine and beer, as well as local spirits such as gin and Amarula, national park fees, all scheduled activities, and transfers.
