The camp consists of 6 authentic and elegantly furnished Serengeti-style safari tents, sleeping a total of 12 people and is an exact replica of the original Somalisa Camp. Each luxury canvas tent has an en suite bathroom including flush toilets, baths, al fresco bucket showers, and running water and is elevated above the bush on wooden decking. Other amenities include a fireplace for relaxing at night, fans, mosquito nets, writing desk, and complimentary laundry service. The rooms use solar lighting to minimize the impact on the natural bush environment. Guests can take in the panoramic views from the comfort of their private veranda. The camp’s water hole is frequently used as a mud-bath and a popular meeting place for the elephants.
The camp is nestled under a beautiful grove of acacias, along the edge of a seasonal flood plain, and located in the heart of Zimbabwe’s large and most beloved Hwange National Park. The park is known to have one of the highest diversities of wildlife and bird-life species than more than any other national park in all of Southern Africa, as well as being called the land of giants for its big elephant herds. Once the royal hunting grounds to the Ndebele warrior-king Mzilikazi, the 14,650-square kilometer national park is named after a local Nhanzwa chief. It is only about an hour away from the magnificent and world famous Victoria Falls.
Activities include day and night game drives by qualified and passionate guides in open land-cruisers, an excellent way to view the diverse selection of wildlife with over 100 species of mammals and nearly 400 bird species recorded in the park including elephant, kudu, sable antelope, zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, the rare and endangered roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, and hyena. For a closer view, the camp provides guided walking safaris led by a knowledgeable guide. With such a large bird population around, it’s a bird-watchers dream come true. There are also cultural tours available of local villages.
The camp’s main area includes a comfortable lounge and dining area on raised decking which overlooks a small pool, which elephants have become accustomed to drinking out of. It’s also the perfect spot to enjoy high tea. This eco-friendly camp uses a mixture of solar and generated power with a charging station in the main area.
