Old Drift Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Overlooking the mighty Zambezi River, the charming Old Drift Lodge is the closest lodge within Zambezi National Park to the breathtaking Victoria Falls.

The new property has ten luxury tented suites and four family suites to choose from. These luxury tented suites are comprised of large, light-filled air-conditioned rooms under canvas with a comfortable bedroom and lounge area. For added convenience, the family suites consist of two inter leading rooms. The en suite bathrooms feature not only indoor and an outdoor showers but deep free-standing outdoor bathtubs. For added privacy and relaxation, each suite enjoys its own veranda with an inviting plunge pool and sleep-out deck.

The lodge is located in Zambezi National Park which was separated from the greater Victoria Falls National Park in 1979. The park encompasses 140,000 acres of mopane woodlands dotted with many indigenous trees including sausage trees, rain trees, and water berry tree. A wide variety of larger mammals such as elephant, lion, buffalo and leopard can be found in the park as well as herds of sable antelope, eland, zebra, giraffe, kudu, and waterbuck. The river itself is home to over seventy-five species of fish including bream and tiger fish.

Early morning and late afternoon game drives take guests on an unforgettable wildlife adventure led by expert guides and trackers in an open 4×4 vehicle. Guided bush walks examine the park in more intimate detail for a closer look at the local flora and fauna as well as lessons on tracking game. Dependent on the water levels, a boat ride down the Zambezi River in the lodge’s ten-seater pontoon boat is the optimal way to explore the region and spot the aquatic wildlife such as Nile crocodiles and hippos. Of course, the ultimate activity is the trip to the famous Victoria Falls, one of the seven wonders of the world. For an additional fee, a helicopter tour provides an aerial view of the falls and park.

At the heart of the lodge sits the spacious dining and bar area which enjoy panoramic views of the Zambezi River. There is also a south-facing view of a water hole frequented by the local wildlife. A wide deck allows for al fresco dining as well as gathering at night around the large fire for a drink and some company. An environmentally friendly camp, it works hard to reduce its carbon footprint.
