Chinzombo

PLAN MY TRIP

Shaded by giant acacia trees, the award-winning and elegant Chinzombo is a tranquil paradise in the beautiful Luangwa Valley.

Accommodations consist of six stunning villas including five twin or double rooms and one family villa. The elegant and contemporary villas are constructed of grass and canvas walls with a spacious living area that flows into the wild surroundings. Each villa features a luxury bed draped in mosquito netting and fitted with its own air-con unit. While the opulent en suite bathrooms include a shower, his and hers sinks, and a large, free-standing bathtub. The family villa comprises two en suite bedrooms. Each villa enjoys a private deck with comfy chairs in a sunken lounge and its own plunge pool for unwinding and taking in the spellbinding views. Other amenities include a mini bar, free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities, and fans.

Designed by award-winning architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, Chinzombo is the only permanent camp in South Luangwa National Park, a world-famous wildlife haven. The Muchinga Escarpment forms the park’s western and northwestern boundaries, sloping steeply down to the Luangwa River from the west side. The valley, continued to the west by the Lunsemfwa River valley, forms a natural barrier, and to this day there are no man-made roads spanning the valley. The park enjoys a dense animal population including Impalas, pukus, waterbucks, giraffes, and buffalos grazing on the plains. A high number of leopards stalk the dense woodlands, while herds of elephant wade through the marshes and hippos play in the Luangwa River. There are about 400 bird species recorded in the Park.

Private game drives are tailored to fit each group rather than sticking to a set schedule. There are both day and night game drives available in comfortable safari vehicles and conducted by an expert guide. Walking safaris study the park in greater detail and observe the smaller animals with the aid of a guide and an armed ranger. After an exciting game drive or walk, guests can enjoy a pampering spa treatment in the comfort and privacy of their own villa.

The open-plan main area has been built around the existing trees which shade the white-washed deck. There is a covered dining room, but meals may also be enjoyed al fresco style on the deck. A comfy lounge invites guests to relax into deep couches and bean bag chairs while enjoying views of the river. The camp also includes a well-stocked bar and library. At night, everyone gathers around the firepit for a drink and a chance to swap stories.
