Nestled on a tree island of sycamore fig trees in the lion-heavy Busanga Plains, Busanga Bush Camp is an intimate and comfortable safari camp.
Accommodations at the camp consist of just four well-appointed canvas tents. The tents come with two twin beds that can be pushed together to make a double. The en suite bathrooms came with porcelain sinks, a flush toilet, and a shower. A shaded veranda fitted with canvas chairs is the perfect spot to relax and take in the sweeping views of the plains. Other amenities include bathrobes, slippers, and an in-room safe.
The Busanga plains are the lush jewel of Zambia’s Kafue National Park and are renowned for their fertile grasslands that attract incredible concentrations of wildlife. Flooded each year by the Lufupa River, a tributary of the Kafue River, the grasslands support herds of plains game from sitatunga to impala to zebra. Not surprisingly, these grazers attract impressive numbers of predators including cheetah and wild dogs. In fact, Busanga is famous for its productive prides of lions. Other animals living here include puku, red lechwe, buffalo, and wildebeest as well as large pods of hippos in the channel. Bird lovers can enjoy some of the 491-species found here, including the endemic Chaplin’s barbet.
