PLAN MY TRIP

A tropical paradise nestled in Uganda’s Kibale National Park, Primate Lodge Kibale offers unforgettable encounters with thirteen different species of primates, particularly wild chimpanzees.

Accommodations consist of eight luxury safari tents or seven comfortable forest cottages. The luxury safari tents are securely placed on raised wooden platforms and are covered with grass-thatched roofs. They feature a private veranda, colorful African décor, comfortable bed, large windows, and en-suite bathrooms. The forest cottages provide a private veranda, large twin beds, sitting area, en-suite bathroom, and traditional African art. The Sky Tree House offers unique accommodations. The Tree House features a simple bedroom, basic bathroom facilities at the foot of the tree, and views overlooking the forest elephant wallow. There are also well-maintained campsites where guests can bring their own personal tent.

The lodge is located in the Kibale Forest National Park. Encompassing 347 square miles, the forest houses the greatest variety and concentration of primates found anywhere in East Africa. There are thirteen different species are living in this small area, including the black-and-white colobus monkey, blue monkey, red-tailed monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, and bushbaby. Of course, the biggest draw to the forest are the chimpanzees. There are more than 1,000 wild chimpanzees in the forest with an 80-member family habituated for human viewing. There are also 325 bird species recorded living here.

The highlight of any trip to Primate Lodge Kibale is the opportunity to track the chimpanzees in Kibale National Forest and enjoy them in their natural environment. A guide will point out and explain different animals and plants along the route. Bird lovers can enjoy a guided walk through the forest to see red-winged francolin, green-breasted pitta, joyful greenbul, white-bellied crested flycatcher, woodland warbler, and orange-tufted sunbird. While a nocturnal walk explores the forest after dark for a chance to see bush babies, pottos, and more. In addition to tracing the primates in the forest, the lodge offers other adventurous activities such as a chimp habituation experience, Bigodi Swamp walk, exploration of the crater lakes, and walking in the foothills of the beautiful Rwenzori Mountains.

Primate Lodge Kibale is an exclusive eco-lodge that offers an authentic jungle experience in a serene atmosphere. A comfortable restaurant, well-stocked bar, and a secluded lounge area with a small library where monkeys chatter in the trees outside combine with exceptional service to make each guest’s safari experience truly special. There is free Wi-Fi in the public areas and a souvenir shop. The unique campfire area is more of a campfire cave perfect for warming up on a cold night.
