Mvuu Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Overlooking the Shire River in game-rich Liwonde National Park, Mvuu Camp is a beautiful, family friendly destination.

Accommodations at the camp offer a choice between the cleverly-constructed stone and canvas chalets and two specially-designed family tent. There are seven twin-bedded chalets whose beds can be converted into doubles. Traveling with children is no problem, there are five family units with two beds per room and a shared en suite bathroom. The bathrooms feature a sink, flush toilet, and shower. Wide windows and a shaded porch give way to plenty of stunning views and animals sightings.

The camp is located in the popular Liwonde National Park on the southern tip of Lake Malombe in the south of Malawi. The park encompasses 220-square miles of diverse landscapes with dry Mopani woodlands in the east and more tropical palm savannah and baobab trees in the floodplains near the Shire River. The camp sits on the banks of a lagoon which is home to hippos, Nile crocodiles, and plenty of elephants as Liwonde boasts the highest population of elephants in Malawi. Other big game animals found here include sable antelope, impala, waterbuck, reedbuck, warthog, kudu, yellow baboon, pangolin, monitor lizards, leopard, and vervet monkeys. With the highest year-round bird watching in Central and Southern Africa, Liwonde enjoys over 400 bird species.

Daytime game drives are conducted by an expert guide and tracker in a 4WD safari vehicle. While night time drives explore the nocturnal habits of hyena, owls, civets, genets, and various species of mongoose as well as a sundower on the banks of the Shire River. For a closer view of the river itself and its ample game and bird life, a river cruise with a refreshing drink is the ideal place to be. Guided bush walks take in the smaller flora and fauna with lessons on the medicinal uses of the various plants. For a cultural visit, guests can explore the nearby villages and Nanthomba School for a closer look at local life. The camp has its own water level hide providing a close up look at the rhinos, elephants, and other animals coming for a drink.

The central area of camp features an impressive thatched dining room and lounge area framed by two large baobab trees. Dinners are sometimes also offered under the beauty of a night sky in a specially built boma. FOr the kids, there is a playground. Plus, there is a custom built education center and conference facility for corporate groups and retreats.
