The eleven day/ten night tour covers many of the tribes in the Omo valley. Travelers will get to visit the Hamer people known for their bull jumping ceremony, the infamous women of the Mursi tribe who wear large clay lip plates to symbolize their beauty and the Karo people renowned for their body paintings. Other tribes include the Dassenech, Ari, Dorze, and Tsemai for rich cultural interactions. As an added bonus, the tour includes the weekly markets at Key Afer, Dimeka, and Turmi for an exciting chance to haggle and purchase a unique souvenir. Along the way, there will be chances to see the beautiful Rift Valley Lakes, historic churches, Swain’s hartebeest, crocodiles, hippos, plenty of bird species, and an archeological site. A knowledgeable, professional, English-speaking guide leads the journey.

Comfortable hotel, resort, or lodge accommodations will consist of a shared twin room. All entrance fees, local transfers, ground transportation and insurance, guides, mule hire, and boat rentals are covered in the fee as well as meals outside of Addis Ababa.

Brief Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa and transfer to hotel
  • Day 2: Drive to Rift Valley with tour of church of Adadi Mariam, Melka Kunture, and stelea field of Tiya. Enjoy afternoon swimming and bird watching at Lake Langano.
  • Day 3: Drive to Arba Minch, visit beautiful painted homes of the Alaba people and visit Sinkile Wild life Sanctuary.
  • Day 4: Drive to Chechna to visit Dorze Village known for weaving tradition. Afternoon boat trip on Lake Chamo to see crocodiles, hippos, and birds.
  • Day 5: Drive to Jinka and the villages of the Konso people known for their colorful hand-woven clothes.
  • Day 6: Explore Mago National Park and visit Mursi people. Drive back to Jinka and visit the cultural museum.
  • Day 7: Drive to Turmi and the village of the Hamer people known for distinctive hairdressing and leather skirts.
  • Day 8: Excursion to Omo Rate to visit Dasenech people known for their scarifications, then onto village of Karo people.
  • Day 9: Drive to Yabello with a stop at the villages of the nomadic people of Erbore.
  • Day 10: Visit the nomadic people of Borena and Sidama
  • Day 11: Back to Addis Ababa with a chance to see Rift Valley Lakes and the fish market of Lake Awassa.
