Seychelles

Fregate Island Private

PLAN MY TRIP

Located just 4 degrees south of the equator and featuring world-class beaches, lush tropical vegetation, and luxurious accommodations, the eco-friendly Fregate Island Private is the hottest resort in the Seychelles.

Lodgings at the hotel consist of sixteen traditional mahogany and thatched-roof villas and the very elegant Banyon Hill Estate. The hotel offers a choice between the private pool residence for up to two adults and two children, the private pool twin residence for up to four adults and two children, or the private pool spa residence for two adults with a private spa facility. Each bedroom and living room is connected by a vestibule with a dining facility. The rooms also feature one large and one small bathroom, each with their own private outdoor shower. But the ultimate luxury comes from the private terrace with its large infinity pool and jacuzzi, a plush daybed, and a dining pavilion.

The Banyan Hills Estate is located on a hilltop on a secluded peninsula overlooking the harbor, white sandy beaches, and the island proper. Guests can live like royalty with their own personal chef, private butler, and personal maid. The estate features three separate sleeping villas for a total of six adults and up to three children. It also comes with a full-kitchen, separate T.V. lounge, and private study. The private infinity pool at the estate even has its own gazebo.

The hotel is set within an archipelago of 115 islands that were discovered 300 years ago. It was once home to pirates at war with the British East India Company. Then the French claimed it as a colony only to have the British refute this claim and the island changed hands several times until its independence in 1976. Now it’s a luxury resort with seven pristine beaches, a protected inland harbor within a lagoon, and the site of some serious conservation efforts.

The resort promotes and protects the well-being of the Giant Aldabra Tortoises, as well as the nesting grounds of the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle and the endangered Green Turtle. In addition to which, the island is a bird sanctuary for over 100 species.

Activities at the resort take full advantage of the island setting. The diving staff can take guests to the best spots for scuba diving and offer PADI certified diving courses for all levels. Deep sea-fishing, sailing, surfing, kayaking, wind surfing, water skis, and banana towing are also available for some fun on the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. On land, nature walks with resident conservationists can include searching for sea turtle hatchlings or checking nest boxes for eggs. Winding mountain trails can be explored by hiking, buggy, or mountain bikes.

At Fregate House, the heart of the island is the main dining area featuring locally grown produce and fresh-fish. There is also a library, a collection of old rums and whiskies, a wine tasting cellar in the basement, and the Pirates Bar beach hut. Nearby Plantation House and Museum offers fine dining on tasty creole dishes and a fascinating museum with historical artifacts and display of local flora and fauna in the setting of an old colonial plantation. In addition to which, the resort has a Yacht Club and Kids Club.
