The Bishop’s House

PLAN MY TRIP

Ideally located in Musanze near Volcanoes National Park, The Bishop’s House is an intimate and modern boutique hotel.

Accommodations at the hotel consist of nine elegant rooms including an executive suite, deluxe room, and superior double or twin room. Each room is well-furnished in the classic style and features a large antique four-poster bed, hardwood furniture, rich fabrics, and Impressionist-style paintings. The en suite bathrooms come with double vanities and a shower. Other amenities include a mini bar, satellite television, tea/coffee facilities, and high-speed Wi-Fi. Plus, every room enjoys a balcony or patio where guests may soak in the beautiful views with a coffee or a good book.

The hotel is situated in the suburbs of Musanze. It is only a twenty-five-minute drive to beautiful Volcanoes National Park. Spanning ninety-nine miles in the northern part of Rwanda, it is the oldest national park in Africa. As a part of the great volcanic chain of the Virunga Mountains that straddles the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the D.R.C, it encompasses six active and three extinct volcanoes. Most famously it is home to around half of the world’s mountain gorillas. Moreover, it’s also the site of groundbreaking gorilla conservation efforts conducted by primatologist Dian Fossey, the inspiration for the book and film, Gorillas in the Mist. Guests can visit her grave and research center.

As the hotel is just ten miles from Volcanoes National Park, it’s the perfect high-end destination for visitors wanting to visit the mountain gorillas. From the park’s headquarters guests can take a one-hour guided hike through lush bamboo forests with the chance of spotting a fully-grown silverback gorilla. Despite being up to three times the size of an average man, these creatures are remarkably peaceable and tolerant of human visitors. For an easier walk, there is always a golden monkey trek to watch these playful creatures jumping and climbing through the trees. It is also only six miles from Mount Lake Ruhondo.

The Bishop’s House is built in the classic style of a colonial manor house yet boasts all the comforts of a modern boutique hotel. There is a comfortable shared lounge and television area. The hotel not only houses its own restaurant, bar, and snack area, it also has BBQ facilities, room service, and will even pack delicious lunch to go. A family friendly property, there is a playground and Kid’s Club to occupy the younger generation and even free babysitting services available.
