Mozambique

Benguerra Island

PLAN MY TRIP

Situated on the second largest island in the sunny Bazaruto Archipelago off the coast of Mozambique, Benguerra Island is an idyllic beach paradise destination.

Ten thatched casinhas are nestled in a lush island forest. They include a light, airy bedroom with a small sitting area and an en suite bathroom with a large bath. There is also a private sala with a hanging daybed and private sun loungers on the beach. The family casinha features a main guest room with a lounge area and two inter-leading rooms on each side and an en suite bathroom with an outside shower. The private deck has a pool overlooking the beach. The two cabanas are perfect for honeymooners and include a cozy bedroom, en suite bathroom with an outdoor shower, and a private timber deck with a rim flow pool.

The hotel is located on beautiful Benguerra Island with its white sandy beaches, towering sand dunes, and inland lakes. It is home to over 140 bird species and the waters surrounding the archipelago are home to Africa’s last remaining population of the rare dugong. The coral reefs just offshore boast a staggering variety of colorful and exotic tropical fish, dolphins, and migrating whales. The island’s ecosystem includes fresh water lakes with crocodiles, fish, and migrant wading birds, and flamingos.

Taking advantage of its island setting, there are plenty of water based activities available. A fully equipped Dive Center provides a full range of diving adventures including lessons for beginners. There is also snorkeling in the shallower coral reefs. Anglers will enjoy light tackle fishing in the bay, fly-fishing in the open ocean, or even targeting the oceans kingpin, the marlin. Catch and release is encouraged. A romantic cruise in a traditional white-sailed dhow is the best way to enjoy a sunset in the bay. Island drives, horse riding safaris, swimming with horses, castaway picnics, and helicopter rides are also available.

The hotel has a charming bar made from an old dhow and serves up refreshing drinks and fresh seafood. The refreshing rim flow pool and its comfortable loungers looks onto the beach and turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. While the massage sala lets guests unwind as expert masseuses unknot their muscles in a paradise setting.
