Mozambique

Azura Benguerra

PLAN MY TRIP

The Azura Retreat on Benguerra Island in the Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago is a nearly indescribable destination.

Azura Benguerra has three luxury beach villas near the beach. Each spacious villa offers a private plunge pool, air-conditioning, a king size bed, an en-suite bathroom with shower as well as outdoor his and hers showers. Eleven “infinity” beach villas are larger and furnished in contemporary style and look out over a stunning infinity pool toward the beach. The newest addition is “Villa Amizade,” a two-bedroom villa located at the western end of the property. This luxurious villa sleeps up to four people and is perfect for families.

The Presidential Villa is one of the most luxurious private residences found anywhere in the Indian Ocean. Its exclusive beachfront location offers amazing views towards Bazaruto Dune. The huge split-level master suite has a king size bed, sitting area, massive bathroom with panoramic free-form bath and shower, dressing area, and his and hers indoor/outdoor showers.

The hotel is located on Azura Benguerra Island, the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, and boasts miles of unspoiled white sandy beaches and the warm, turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. It was built entirely by hand in partnership with the local community.

The island’s ecosystem includes fresh water lakes with crocodiles, fish, and migrant wading birds, and flamingoes. There are also remnant forests along the dunes, grasslands, and swamps which house a variety of bird life and mammals.

Activities at Azura Benguerra center around enjoying the Indian Ocean. Snorkeling, diving, fly-fishing, or big game fishing take in the incredible variety of reef fish to angling for marlin, sailfish, tuna, and giant trevally. There are also opportunities to swim with dolphin and track migrating humpback whale. The resort’s Padi 5-star dive center has all new Scubapro equipment and a full range of instructional courses. Guests can also enjoy sunset dhow cruises, bird watching on the island, picnics on the beach, and day trips to Vilanculos.

The main communal area sits right on the beach and houses a lounge, star bar, media room, boutique, and the Jellyfish restaurant. Dining focuses on the fresh, local seafood and meals can be enjoyed everywhere from the restaurant to picnic lunches on remote islands to candlelit dinners on the beach. Wine tasting events feature the hotel’s fine selection of wines includes those from the owner’s own chateau in the Loire Valley. For even more decadence, the Azura spa has a wide menu of relaxing treatments available.
