Ngaga Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Tucked in a glade in the heart of a lush rainforest, Ngaga Camp provides a heightened experience from its raised rooms to its stunning landscape and plethora of wildlife including its famous gorilla treks.

Accommodations at the camp consist of six comfortable rooms set on raised wooden platforms high above the glade. It’s like being in a luxury tree-house built for adults. Each room has an en suite bathroom with double vanity, indoor shower, and flush toilet. Ceiling fans help keep the rooms cool. The camp is constructed from natural materials including locally woven raffia palm roofing panels. The room’s private 360-degree wraparound deck connects to the main walkways and is the perfect spot to relax and survey the verdant canopy of trees and listen to exotic birds sing.

The camp is ideally set in the lush Ndzehi Forest overlooking a forest stream on the western boundary of Odzala -Kokoua National Park. More importantly, the camp lies within the overlapping home ranges of several groups of western lowland gorillas. It’s the perfect spot for both award-winning gorilla research and unforgettable encounters with these majestic primates. Other primates living in the area include putty-nose monkeys, crowned and mustached monkeys, and the rarer chimpanzees. Of course, there are plenty of other wildlife about including the black-casqued wattled hornbill, forest duikers, great blue turaco, and butterflies.

There are plenty of exciting activities available at the camp. But the primary draw is the gorilla trek. Skilled trackers and expert guides lead tours through the marantaceae forest on foot to observe the western lowland gorillas in their natural habitat with plenty of opportunities to spot a host of other wildlife on the way. The gorillas are used to being observed by humans and the guides can observe their tracks and behaviors to get the ideal encounter possible. Other activities include guided bird watching and night walks. There is also a cultural visit to nearby Ombo Village to learn about how the local population lives off their forest home.

The main camp is situated on raised platforms all interconnected by walkaways. The camp’s dining room, lounge, and bar all overlook the rich, verdant rainforest. After an exciting day with the gorillas, pre-dinner drink are served on the star deck and fire pit which are located on a dropped deck below the main area. There is also a river deck where guests can indulge in post-forest walk drinks, cocktail parties, and private dinners. The Ngaga stream is also great for cooling off.
