Serena Beach Hotel & Spa

PLAN MY TRIP

Rising above the white sand and azure waters of Shanzu Beach near Mombasa, Serena Beach Hotel and Spa offers an escape to paradise near a traditional 13th century Swahili town.

Luxury accommodations consist of a variety of different rooms and suites with village, sea, or garden views. Each well-appointed room features a Maasai-inspired hand-painted wall fresco, king-sized bed or luxurious twins draped in romantic mosquito curtains, and an en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower. The architecture of rooms themselves mimic a traditional Swahili village with winding lanes, squares, and market places. In addition, each room enjoys its own private balcony or veranda with magnificent views. Each family room comes with a twin-bedded en suite children’s room.

The hotel sits on beautiful Shanza Beach just eighteen miles north of Mombasa and overlooks Mombasa Marine National Park, a 124-square mile reserve with a well-developed coral barrier reef. The park is visited by dolphin and turtles and plays host to 250 marine species including crabs, butterfly fish, parrotfish, sea urchins, cowries, moray eel, lionfish, and sergeant major fish. The port city of Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya and is located on Mombasa Island, which is separated from the mainland by Tudor Creek and Kilindini Harbour. Old Town Mombasa dates back to the 13th century and has a colorful fusion of Arab, African, and Portuguese influences.

With access to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, there are plenty of water sports to enjoy here including snorkeling in the protected barrier reef, scuba diving, wind surfing, kayaking, kite surfing, and sailing. Anglers will relish trying their hand at deep sea fishing. On the beach itself, guests can partake in beach volleyball, beach walks, or even just a lazy afternoon of sunbathing. The hotel has tennis and squash courts, archery, and can arrange golf at a nearby course. Of course, there are plenty of nature walks or even game drives in the Shimba Hills National Reserve. For a little more history or a chance to shop, visitors can explore the historic Old Town.

The hotel has a wide range of dining options available including refined beach side dining, a selection of bars, coffee shops, and café areas, both inside and out. There is live music nightly and even an ice cream parlor for a sweet indulgence. A free-form pool and swim-up bar keeps things cool. While the hotel is known for its Serena Mind, Body, Spirit Spa, a sanctuary of calm with a wide menu of relaxing treatment options.
