Selinda Explorers Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Built on the banks of the Selinda Spillway, Selinda Explorers Camp provides an authentic tent camp experience.

Small and intimate, accommodations at the camp consist of four luxury custom-designed canvas tents for up to eight people with an optional guide’s tent available as well. With an emphasis on a clean and classic look the tents are decorated with beautifully detailed campaign style furniture made from recycled hard woods and soft furnishings from Zanzibar and the East. Each tent is made up of two rooms including a relaxing lounge area. The private bustani bathroom features hot water bucket showers and flush toilets. The private veranda is the perfect spot to unwind and watch nature amble by. An even more romantic way to bathe is in a brass hipbath set up on a nearby sandbank on the edge of the Selinda Spillway under the stars. Other amenities include a fan, in-room safe, dressing gowns, and tea and coffee.

The camp is situated in the 320,000 acre Selinda Reserve of northern Botswana and is built on the banks of the Selinda Spillway, about one hour west of its sister camp, Selinda. The campsite sits in prime predator habitat. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, and packs of African wild dogs hunt these parts regularly. The reserve also plays home to giraffe, buffalo, and wide variety of antelope. At the peak of the dry season, Selinda Reserve has been known to have over 9,000 elephants. In addition to which, the spillway’s banks are a bird-watchers’ heaven.

There are a variety of exciting activities available from the camp. Morning and afternoon game drives are conducted by expert guides in open vehicles. Canoeing the Selinda Spillway is one of the most unique experiences in southern Africa. The two-person Canadian style canoes are located at the front of the camp for use at any time. For a better view of the bush and riverbanks, a guided walk is a great option for exploring the flora and fauna in more detail and learning about tracking. Kids can take advantage of the Young Explorers Program. Each child receives a pack and is taught how to track wildlife as well as different facts about the landscape and its animals.

The main area of the camp sits beneath overhanging ebony and mangosteen trees. The Bedouin-style main area consists of a lounge and separate dining room. All meals included, alcoholic drinks and beverages are included in the rates. Guests can feast on three delicious wholesome meals a day served up from our ‘bush kitchen’. Most are produced on an open fire, including canapés, and multi-course meals using local fresh ingredients. At the end of the evening, the fire pit is a great place to gather around and swap stories under the light of the stars. An Eco-friendly camp, it strives hard to use sustainable practices and leave a zero footprint on the land.
