Mara Explorer Tented Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Located on a thickly forested river in the middle of the Maasai Mara Reserve, Mara Explorer Tented Camp offers the ultimate wilderness retreat.

Accommodations at the camp consist of ten luxury tents built on a raised wooden deck. The open, canvas tents come with large comfortable beds and an en suite bathroom with a romantic outdoor bathtub. Each tent has a large, private deck furnished with chairs and a table making it the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee while admiring the view of the river.

The camp is located on the banks of the Talek River, right in the heart of the Mara Triangle within the Masaai Mara National Reserve. It is here in late July to November that the annual great migration takes place in dramatic fashion when millions of wildebeests and thousands of zebras and Thomsons gazelles flood the savanna in search of new pastures with their predators hard on their hoofs. As the herds thunder across the Mara River, waiting crocodiles snap a chance at a meal. Ninety-five species of mammals live in the Masai Mara including lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, and rhinos as well as 550 species of birds.

There are many exciting activities available at the camp. Shared game drives are conducted three times daily in comfortable 4×4 vehicles and led by expert guides and trackers for the best viewing of the annual migration. Walking safaris in the Mara Conservation area led by an armed guide take a closer and more intimate look at the local flora and fauna as well as teaching visitors how to track animals. There are also visits to a local Maasai community supported by the camp. Riverside bush breakfasts, sundowners and dinners and balloon safaris can also be arranged.

The main area of camp includes an open-air riverfront dining area, an intimate lounge, and a camp library. The swimming pool at sister camp, Mara Intrepids, is available for guest’s use.
