Amboseli Sopa Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Nestled in the foothills of the awe-inspiring Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli Sopa Lodge provides rustic charm and luxury accommodations.

Accommodations at the lodge consist of eighty-three well-spaced cottages scattered throughout the vast expanse of mature gardens. There is a variety of comfortable rooms to choose from including doubles, triples, a honeymoon suite, and interconnected family rooms. The cottages are vibrantly decorated with Maasai themed wall murals. Each room has been purpose built to contain either one or two queen sized beds as well as a veranda. In addition to which, the lodge has a luxuriously appointed, extremely spacious, two-bedroom Presidential suite with a private dining room and an attached kitchenette. It also comes with a well-sized lounge and a large veranda for breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

The lodge is located within 200-acres of private land and is only twenty minutes away from Amboseli National Park. Amboseli lies in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro and is one of Kenya’s oldest and most-visited parks and is known for its large concentration of elephants. From its setting in an acacia grove, the lodge has breathtaking views over the African savanna and of the mighty mountain itself. The melting waters of the Kili ice-caps flow into pools that form the only sources of water for this beautiful but dry land. This in turn attracts large numbers of elephant, hippo, buffalo, and plains game to the waters and wallows. Nearby, Observation Hills provides some of the most magnificent sunsets over Kilimanjaro.

Activities that can be booked at the lodge include guided nature walks and game drives conducted in specially adapted open-sided safari vehicles, perfect for spotting the Big Five game animals as well as the famous herds of elephants. Other activities include Maasai dancing and cultural displays. Specially arranged culturally-interactive trips to local Maasai villages and/or schools can also be arranged to learn about their rich culture and traditions. Sundowners, bush breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are great ways to take in the spectacular scenery while enjoying a delicious meal or a cocktail.

The main lodge is set within mature wooded gardens with a wide variety of trees and plants which include thorn trees, acacias, aromatic frangipanis, colorful bougainvillea, and giant cacti. These gardens are also home to numerous species of birds as well as monkeys, mongooses, squirrels, duikers, the occasional gazelle, and sometimes a leopard. The domed reception area is made to look like a traditional Maasai house. The main area houses the lobby, Maasai handicraft market, Kibo Restaurant, Hemingway Bar, Mawenzi Bar, and Mawenzi Terrace. There is also a pool and pool bar with views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
