Khwai River Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Overlooking Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the iconic Okavango Delta, Khwai River Lodge is one of the oldest safari lodges in the country.

Accommodation at Khwai River Lodge consists of fifteen twin-bedded en-suite luxury tents built on raised decks with thatched roofs. The tent interiors are luxurious and offer a mini bar, a four-poster bed, mosquito netting, and air conditioning. Each tent features an en suite bathroom with double vanities, a shower, and a flush toilet. The large private decks have hammocks and easy chairs, perfect for relaxing in. There is also a luxurious private suite comes complete with double showers and a copper-framed Victorian bath as well as a refreshing heated splash pool on the deck. Guest booking the private suite also have access to an exclusive vehicle and personal guide.

The lodge is ideally set in a wonderful grove of old indigenous leadwood and fig trees and boasts excellent views of Khwai River floodplain within the Moremi Game Reserve. Extending north and east to join Chobe National Park, Moremi is a wildlife haven that stretches all the way to Kasane. Known for its density of wildlife, Moremi is home to lions, cheetah, hippos, elephants, and many other big game animals.

Activities at Khwai Lodge revolve around the region’s uniquely spectacular terrain and wildlife. Game drives into the Moremi Game Reserve are the daily staple. The permanent water of the Khwai River makes it a hotspot for birdwatchers. Many water bird species thrive here as well such as purple gallinule, saddle-billed stork, black stork, and kingfishers. Moonlit safaris follow the nocural animals such as hyena and the big cats. There are also cultural visits available to San Bushmen villages.

The lodge’s common area includes a spectacular observation deck overlooking the Khwai River and the Moremi Game Reserve beyond. A high-powered telescope spots game in the day and planets at night. The boma hosts dinners and local performances under the stars. Meals at Khwai River Lodge are customized to the day’s activities including leisurely breakfasts, a delicious brunch after the morning safari, afternoon tea, sundowners, and snacks while out in the bush. Finally, dinner usually happens after dark, either around the campfire or on the deck. An on-site spa is the perfect contrast and compliment to a day of adventure in the bush.
