Khwai Leadwood

PLAN MY TRIP

Built on the banks of the Khwai River and nestled amongst a forest of sycamore and leadwood trees, Khwai Leadwood Under Thatch provides a quiet and intimate luxury safari camp experience.

Accommodations at the camp consists of 4 standard chalets and two family chalets. Each of these spacious and well-appointed rooms has a private en-suite bathroom with gorgeous views over the water. The thatched interiors keep the rooms deliciously cool. Guests can take in the panoramic views from their private veranda that overlooks the famed Moremi Game Reserve, one of the richest game viewing areas in Botswana.

The newest of the African Bush Camps properties, Khwai Leadwood Under Thatch has found a home on a permanent site on Tsaro Concession in the Khwai Community Area. The camp is located on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta in a community run concession which supports the local Khwai community and local projects with proceeds generated by tourism within the area. The lagoon which stretches out in front of the camp, flows into the Khwai River providing a natural border to the community area from the adjacent Northern Moremi Game Reserve. The Khwai River is a source of life for the region attracting an abundance of wildlife and supporting diverse ecosystems.

Daytime game drives can be taken to explore and to view the abundant wildlife including elephant, buffalo, zebra, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, giraffe, eland, sable, hippo and hyena. Night drives are an excellent opportunity to see some of the more shy, nocturnal animals. For a more immersive, up close and personal experience guests can take a nature walk and explore the local leadwood and mopane woodlands and adjacent grasslands. The camp takes advantage of its river location and offers a Mokoro trip, based on the design of traditional canoes, these fiberglass replicas provide an up close and intimate view of the river and its wildlife. A bird-watching paradise, the river has a wide variety of bird-life to take in and enjoy. Guided walks, sundowners, and bush lunches and dinners are also available. Cultural tours of nearby villages furnish a terrific chance to gain a deeper understanding of the people and country of Botswana.

Khwai Leadwood Under Thatch will form part of the dedicated group of African Bush Camps family camps, and for 2017 replaces plans for Khwai Leadwood, the tented family camp in the Khwai Community Area. The camp will possess the same level of style, interiors, comfort, and standard that our guests have come to expect from African Bush Camps properties.
