Delta Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Located on the beautiful, palm-studded Chief’s Island in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Delta Camp provides both a luxurious and tranquil feel.

Accommodations at the camp consist of seven ‘lethaka’ or reed chalets built of natural materials and elevated off the forest floor. Each chalet has its own unique character and designed and are constructed around the trees which means that sometimes a tree may come through a floor or a roof. The chalets also come with a comfy bedroom and a cozy lounge. The en suite bathrooms feature hot and cold running water and showers with a view. An outside deck provides the ideal spot to relax in complete privacy while enjoying the spectacular scenery and wildlife of Chief’s Island.

The camp is ideally set on Chief’s Island the heart of the world-famous Okavango Delta. Chief’s Island is the only area in the Okavango Delta that is home to the black and white rhino as well as the rest of Africa’s “big five”: lion, leopard, buffalo, and elephant. Known as the “predator capital of Africa,” the surrounding area is also home to genet cat, hyena, and the extremely rare African wild dog as well as zebra, antelope, giraffe, impala, and over 500 species of birds. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Okavango Delta is made up of crystal-clear channels, lagoons, sweeping floodplains, and countless islands all formed as it captures water from the Okavango River during the rainy season.

To view these awe-inspiring animals in their habitat, experienced and
well-trained local guides lead guided nature walks on many of the islands in the Delta. Local dugout canoes known as mokoro are the ideal way to explore the lagoons and waterways. A magical experience, mokoro excursions with an expert local guide allow guests to leisurely discover lily-filled lagoons for hippo, crocodile, and other animals. Each of the seven chalets is assigned its very own private guide to explore the area around Chiefʼs Island on mokoro and on foot. Cultural tours take guests to an authentic baYei village to learn about the rich traditions and culture of the local tribes. A bird watcher’s dream come true, there is plenty of bird-watching opportunities.

The camp’s lounge and dining area overlooks the confluence of the Boro and Metsematsweu channels of the Okavango providing spectacular views. An abundance of game can be seen from the deck with frequent visits from elephants while hippos and crocodiles can be seen in the water. Delicious meals served here use as much locally grown ingredients as they possibly can. The camp is a family-friendly and eco-friendly property.
