Sasakwa Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Located in the game-rich Grumeti Reserves in northern Tanzania, Sasakwa Lodge is a refurbished turn of the century manor house with modern luxuries and old-world elegance.

Sasakwa’s cottages overlook the iconic Serengeti plains, and each luxury cottage consists of a beautifully appointed bedroom with a four-poster bed, an en suite bathroom, a lounge with a fireplace, a dressing area, a powder room, a veranda with a Swarovski spotting scope, and a heated infinity plunge pool. Sasakwa has a total of eleven suites, four of which are multi-bedroom and one of which is the new and luxurious Hillside Suite.

The lodge is situated in Singita’s private Grumeti Reserve, which forms part of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. This area in the western part of the Serengeti National Park, Africa’s number one world heritage site, is known worldwide for its spectacular annual wildebeest migration. Every year millions of wildebeests, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and Thomsons gazelles, flood the grassy plains in search of new pastures. Of course, the predators are not far behind including large populations of lions, leopards, hyenas, and wild dogs. The 350,000 acres of the Singita Grumeti Reserve is mostly untouched wilderness and hosts a massive wildlife population including 25 species of large carnivores, forty species of herbivores, and over 500 species of birds.

Activities at the lodge center around the twice-daily game drives conducted in 4×4 vehicles with professional guides. A community tour visits the Environmental Education Center for lessons on understanding the Serengeti Ecosystem. Guided safari walks take a closer look at the flora and fauna. The lodge even offers archery lessons with a bow for children and a professional compound bow with arrows for adults. Other activities include mountain biking and out-rides starting from the equestrian center in the nearby Sasakwa Lodge. For an additional fee, there are hot air balloon safaris across the Serengeti Plains. Other activities such as tennis and shopping are also available.

One of a trio of luxury lodges in the area, Sasakwa boasts a main lodge reminiscent of an Edwardian manor house. The main area of the camp offers a swimming pool, dining room, bar lounge with satellite television, DVD player, and library. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as teas, coffees, and premium wines are provided daily. The camp’s chefs strive to create an incredible dining experience using locally grown, organic produce, Zanzibar spices, and fresh-picked herbs. There is also a spa, boutique, gym, and gallery.
