Tinga Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Surrounded by bush and sky and perched on the edge of the perennial Sabie River, Tinga Lodge offers a private paradise in world-famous Kruger National Park.

Accommodations at Lion Sands Tinga Lodge offer the last word in luxury and exude the style of a colonial homestead. There are nine spacious suites to choose from all decorated in simple elegance under high-thatched roofs. All suites have large en suite bathrooms with a shower and bath featuring wide windows showcasing the natural beauty of the riverbank. Separate lounging areas furnished with cushioned chairs provide the perfect spot to unwind. But the ultimate luxury is found in viewing the lush landscape and wildlife from each suite’s own private plunge pool or covered wooden deck. Other amenities include air-conditioning, fans, mosquito nets, in-room safe, and personal mini-bar. A two-bedroom family suite will be available in August 2017.

The lodge is set on the banks of the gorgeous Sabie River within the Lion Sands Game Reserve which is the only private concession to be a part of Sabi Sands Private Reserve and Kruger National Park. The area boasts more large mammal species than any other African game reserve, over 450 species of birds, and a vast range of reptiles, insects, and smaller game. The concession is also home to a large population of the endangered black rhino and is the nesting site of the rare southern ground hornbill and saddle billed stork. The river itself is home to crocodiles and hippos and a virtual bird-watching heaven with an overabundance of bird life including some rare species.

Game drives are conducted twice a day in off-road vehicles that can follow the animals through rough terrain. For a more intimate adventure, guided walking safaris take guests back to the life of the original pioneers and hunters traversing the wilds up close. Bird watching, astronomy, bush breakfasts, bush dinners, river walks, hippo tours, safari lunches, and wildlife lectures are also available. For a cultural tour, the lodge provides the wonderful opportunity to visit the Henna Pre-School within the Huntington community, and to see first-hand the work that More Community Trust does to help the local population. Fulfill a lifelong dream of sleeping under the stars safely and in blissful comfort while nocturnal animals roam below in the Tinyeleti Treehouse, which translates to many stars.

Constructed around an enormous Jackalberry tree which is believed to be over 200 years old, the lodge’s main deck affords brilliant views of the Sabie River, and frequent wildlife sightings, including members of the Big Five. The lounge area reflects a colonial comfort and looks out onto the deck. An all-inclusive property, the rates include all meals, premium brand beers, spirits, cellar wines, & champagnes as well as all soft drinks, laundry, and free Wi-Fi in guest areas. Most meals are served outside with dinners under the stars and prepared by expert chefs using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Moreover, the staff have an excellent reputation for attentive service that goes above and beyond the norm making each guest feel special.
