Hunter’s Country House

PLAN MY TRIP

Perfectly located between the coastal towns of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape, Hunters Country House is a peaceful lodge with a homey and inviting presence.

The hotel has several comfortable rooms and suites to choose from. The five Terrace Rooms are cozy and close to the main building and include an en suite bathroom with a shower and an outdoor patio. The Orchard Suites near the main pool and the Garden Suites include a fireplace in both the bedroom and lounge and an en suite bathroom with a shower and bath. The thatched family suite comprises two en suite bedrooms with a fireplace as well as a stone patio leading into the lush estate gardens. The Pool Suite has a separate lounge and dining area with large spacious bedrooms and an en suite bathroom with a bath and an outdoor shower.

The hotel is located on the Western Cape of South Africa. Once an old farmhouse, the hotel is situated on the Garden Route which is the stretch of south-western coast from Mossel Bay to the Storms River. The region is aptly named due to the verdant and ecologically diverse vegetation encountered here and the numerous lagoons and lakes dotted along the coast. The indigenous forests are a unique mixture of Cape Fynbos and Temperate Forest with nearly 300 species of bird life recorded in the area. There are ten nature reserves hereabouts as well as unique marine reserves that are home to soft coral reefs, dolphins, seals, and a host of other marine life.

There are plenty of activities near the hotel. The nearby Birds of Eden is a world-class free-flight bird sanctuary in a beautiful aviary. Monkeyland is the first free multi-species primate sanctuary with guided safaris to view the inhabitants. Whale, dolphin, and seal watching boat trips are an ideal way to view the plentiful marine life. For a more up-close experience, guests can book a chance to snorkel and swim with seals in Plettenberg Bay. Other boat trips explore the Keurbooms River in Plett and the Knysna lagoon. For an even more luxurious trip, guests can cruise on a yacht through the Knysna Heads, while enjoying a glass of South African sparkling wine and a seafood platter.

The main lodge houses a lounge, library with fireplace, curio and retail store, a dining room, restaurant, and bar. Meals can be enjoyed in the sunny glass conservatory, the dining room, or the outdoor boma with its couches and fireplace. While Zinzi Restaurant is vibrant and casual with a tasty international menu. The hotel also has a large pool, a Cubs Corner play area, babysitting services, and massages upon request.
