City Lodge O. R. Tambo Airport Hotel

PLAN MY TRIP

Conveniently located at Africa’s busiest airport, City Lodge Hotel at O. R. Tambo International Airport is the perfect stop over for business and leisure travelers.

Accommodations at this busy airport hotel consist of spacious air-conditioned rooms with comfortable queen or twin beds. The clean en suite bathrooms come with both a shower and bathtub for rinsing off the grime and fatigue of airplane travel. Guests can kick off their shoes and watch sports, movies, or breaking news on the flat screen T.V. The rooms also have a tea and coffee making facilities for starting the morning right. Other amenities include an in-room electronic safe big enough to fit a laptop, wireless internet access, and a desk.

The hotel stands at the gateway to the great city of Johannesburg, the largest city in South Africa and the provincial capital of Gauteng. A dynamic and cosmopolitan world city, it is the economic hub for the country. It’s also a very green city despite its savanna setting. With around six million trees, Johannesburg is probably the world’s largest man-made urban forest.

Commonly known as Jo’burg, the city has many exciting and unique tourist sights, The Apartheid Museum to the south of city center tells the story of the rise and fall of South Africa’s era of oppression and segregation. Inspiring Constitution Hill is one of the city’s most important attractions. The Constitutional Court, built within the ramparts of the Old Fort, which dates from 1892 was once a notorious prison and held many of the country’s high-profile political activists, including Nelson Mandela and Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi.

Shifting from history to art, Johannesburg Art Gallery houses the largest art collection in Africa. Among the collection are spectacular landscape and figurative paintings from the 17th and 18th Europe, as well as works by leading South Africa artists and traditional African objects. In a gentrified corner of the city, Joziburg Lane occupies the ground floor of One Eloff, a magnificent art deco building which houses artist’s studios and hip restaurants and shops.

The City Lodge Hotel at O. R. Tambo International Airport is the perfect place to stay to explore the city or a great jumping off place before exploring the rest of South Africa. The hotel has a refreshing pool, fitness room, coffee shop, and Sundowner bar. Same day laundry and dry cleaning services are available as well as a host of business services such as faxing and photocopying. An interesting fact, the airport itself was once a testing sight for the Concorde in the 1970s.
