Mboko Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Nestled near the Lekoli River next to lush green forests, Mboko Camp provides a luxury camp experience in the beautiful Odzala-Kokoua National Park.

Accommodations at the Mboko Camp consist of ten chalets, each with an en-suite bathroom. Each room also has its own private deck and lounge chairs, where guests can relax and enjoy the views of the surround forest and savanna. Other amenities include mosquito nets, power points with one convertor, fan, limited wifi, and complimentary laundry service.

Mboko Camp is ideally situated in Odzala-Kokoua National Park, the world’s second largest tropical rainforest. The camp itself rests on a lush savanna that leads onto the beautiful Lekoli River. The area is frequented by forest buffalo, forest elephant, and spotted hyena. The grass savanna is also home to spectacular, strange, and towering termite mounds. Other animals seen in the area hereabouts include the playful colobus monkeys, grey parrots, and bock. Of course, the big draw to this lush rainforest paradise is the unique opportunity to view eleven species of primates including Western lowland gorilla and chimpanzee.

There are many exciting activities available at the Mboko Camp. Because of its ideal location near the water, it is the perfect place to explore the Lekoli and Mambili Rivers by motorboat, traditional pirogue, or even kayak, during which you will spot dwarf crocodiles, forest ducks, kingfishers, and perhaps even hippo. Guests can walk the 2,300-foot nature board walk through the semi-flooded forest near Mboko and wonder at this arboreal paradise.

Expert guides lead game drives and walking safaris through the bai and savanna. Yet the real draw of Mboko Camp is the gorilla tracking experience out of the Ngaga area. Skilled trackers and expert guides lead hikes through the marantaceae forest in search of the western lowland gorillas in their natural habitat, with lots of opportunities to view other wildlife and birdlife along the way.

The main area of Mboko Camp is comprised of an open-sided, thatched building, surrounded by a large deck that is perfect for star-gazing and alfresco meals. After dinner drinks can be enjoyed around a communal fire pit. There is a star deck and river deck on the Lekoli. Guests can even cool off with a refreshing swim in the river!
