River Crossing Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Nestled amongst the foothills of the Auas Mountains, River Crossing Lodge offers a relaxed, country house feel just five miles from the heart of Windhoek.

Accommodations at River Crossing consist of twenty guest chalets. Fifteen chalets have twin beds and five have double beds. Every chalet includes an en- suite bathroom with a shower, toilet, and dual sinks. Though the two honeymoon suites come with a romantic bath in place of a shower. Assuring a cozy night sleep, every bed is dressed in feather duvets and cotton covers. Each of the rooms feature a private balcony with stunning views of either beautiful Windhoek or the sunrise over the Moltkeblick Mountains.

While the lodge is very close to Namibia’s capital city of Windhoek, River Crossing feels remote as it is situated on a deliciously undeveloped 16,000-acre game reserve in the foothills of the Auas Mountains. Nineteen prime wildlife species are found here, including a few that are not endemic to the area such as roan, sable, giraffe, and wildebeest, while leopard and cheetah are a little more elusive but are seen from time to time. The gorgeous countryside comprises a picturesque vista of hills and valleys, mountain tops and ravines, tall trees, grass, and shrubs to be enjoyed without really leaving the delights of the city behind.

Daily game drives are conducted by expert guides over through the private game reserve. There are also offers horseback expeditions and guided or self-guided walks available, both of which are unique ways of encountering the wildlife and landscape. Mountain bike enthusiasts are welcome to bring their own bikes to self-explore the hilly terrain and its challenges. While those less interested in outdoor activities can venture into Windhoek for some prime shopping at the stores and markets or a cultural trip to a museum.

Architecturally inspired by the typical German farmhouse of the region, the lodge is decorated with corrugated iron roofs and wide balconies decorated with pots of geraniums. Large double doors allow entry to the main lodge area and its bar that overlooks the refreshing lap pool. A spacious dining room leads out onto a deck that offers spectacular views of Windhoek and the surrounding mountains. In addition to a conference venue which can accommodate over sixty people, the comfortable lounge with leather sofas and well-considered decor completes the main rooms. For those who wish to be pampered just a little, a small wellness center has menu of relaxing treatment options available.
