Nestled into the foot of a dolomite hill in the private Ongava Game Reserve, Ongava Tented Camp offers the quintessential safari experience via Namibia’s premiere wildlife destination, Etosha National Park.
The camp is composed of eight Meru-style tents constructed of stone, canvas, and thatch. There are seven tents with twin beds and one with a double bed all dressed in crisp, white linens. For families and groups, there is one family unit made up of two tents. Each bedroom consists of two rooms at an angle to each other, with their own bathroom and entrance, linked by a short, curved walkway. Every tent has en-suite bathroom facilities which feature open air showers and a private veranda from which to enjoy sweeping vistas of the surrounding savanna.
Straddling the park’s southern border, the camp overlooks its own private waterhole that attracts an impressive variety of regional wildlife. The Ongava Game Reserve borders Etosha National Park, the wildlife epicenter of the country, and is thus the ideal base from which to experience Namibia’s natural wonders. In addition to its proximity to an incredible diversity and concentration of wildlife, the camp commands panoramic views of the African savanna. By itself, the Ongava Game Reserve boasts 125 square miles of prime wildlife viewing territory and works hard to protect its wildlife including research efforts to study rhino populations. Once an unproductive cattle farm where lions were shot on sight, the lions now enjoy several flourishing prides and are once again the hunters not the hunted.
