Il Moran Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Regarded as one of the premiere camps in the magnificent Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Governors’ IL Moran Camp offers a small and intimate luxury safari experience.

The camp consists of 10 luxury tents nestled under ancient trees within the forest. These spacious canvas tents feature super king size beds fashioned from ancient fallen olive trees and Victorian style baths. The rooms are decorated with African rugs and accents. Large polished,wood-floor bathrooms also have a shower, basin, flush toilet, and bidet and include a dressing gown for added comfort. Guests can lounge on their own private, shaded veranda and watch the parade of animals roam past and the serene beauty of the Mara River itself. It’s the ideal place for honeymooners and couples.

Created in 1972, Governors’ Camp lies in the forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, it’s waters swarming with bird-life, hippo and crocodile, in the heart of Kenya’s grand Masai Mara National Reserve. The Reserve is well-known for its hilly grasslands fed by plentiful rains and home for a wide array of wildlife from the Big Five to herds of migrating wildebeest. For the last 10 years, the camps have been the base for the B.B.C.’s famous Big Cat diaries series which have made the plains of East Africa so famous. The camp also supports several conservation projects and community support programs.

Activities at the camp are plentiful. Highly-trained and experienced guides head up daily game drives in custom-made vehicles to some of the best viewing areas in the Reserve. Hot air balloon rides offer an aerial view of the stunning landscapes below. Walking safaris take place in a private concession area adjacent to the Masai Mara Game Reserve giving a different view and experience than found on game drives. Maasai cultural visits to Mara Rianda, a traditional community, show a way of life almost virtually unchanged for centuries. The camp can also arrange overnight trips to the beautiful unspoilt Island of Mfangano on Lake Victoria.

Guests to the camp can enjoy being the personal guest of the camp manager. During the day, delicious meals are served on the banks of the Mara River under the giant evergreen trees. A romantic candlelit dinner is served in the open dining tent or alfresco by the river. The camp also has a bar and relaxing lounge area furnished with deep sofas and be-cushioned chairs all open to the lovely, natural beauty of the camp’s forest and riverine setting. As added perks, game drives and game walks are included in the rate and complimentary wine is served with dinner.
