Botswana Summer Encounter

PLAN MY TRIP

Explore the magic of the Kalahari and Okavango Delta in its most prolific season when the floodplains teem with wildlife in an exclusive and old-world tented camp adventure only Wilderness Safaris can provide.

A minimum of two guests is required to begin this thrilling adventure with a maximum of seven per departure. The safari departs on Thursday or Friday in November and December from Maun for a full eleven day /ten night journey through Botswana and ends with a cruise down the Chobe River to the world famous Victoria Falls where guests will depart from Livingstone’s Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport. Expert guides will led an epic trip with a diverse range of activities including game drives, walks, a full-day excursion with lunch, motorboat, and a boat cruise.

The safari kicks off with days one through three being spent in an eco-friendly camp, the perfect spot for exploring the beautiful Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The open grassy plains, seasonal pans, wooded acacia islands, scrub covered dunes, and fossil riverbeds are home to the legendary Kalahari black-maned lion, as well as cheetah, leopards, jackals, and the rare brown hyena all hunting the plentiful springbok and gemsbok grazing hereabouts. Days four through six explore the private Santawani Reserve whose alluvial sands in these areas are very fertile, resulting in good grass growth, which attracts a multitude of grazing animal species and their corresponding predators.

Days seven through nine takes in the Xigera Concession and the glory of the Okavango Delta, a bird watcher’s paradise that also teems with many unique animals. Day ten takes adventurers to the world-renowned Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world and the ideal spot to see Nile crocodile and snapping hippos.

Accommodations during the safari are a mixture of old-style serviced camping as well as accommodation in luxury Wilderness Classic camps. The first three nights in the Kalahari Plains Camp provide eight en suite canvas units with a unique rooftop sleep-out. There is a dining and lounge area as well as a plunge pool. The next two nights will be spent in the Gomoti Tented Camp in spacious and comfortable savannah canvas tents on twin beds and include an en suite bathroom. An excellent dinner is served in the thatched dining room followed by relaxing around a campfire. At Xigera Camp on the aptly named Paradise Island, travelers will rest in beautifully furnished en-suite tented rooms with views of the floodplains or a soak in the plunge pool. The last night will be spent at Toka Leya Camp on the Zambezi River in another spacious en-suite safari tent with a private wooden deck overlooking the river. All meals, activities, and local drinks are included in the fee.

To maximize guests’ travel time, a variety of travel modes is used including flying in light aircraft and overland transfers in customized 4X4 safari vehicles. Wilderness safaris advises bringing a 2-D battery flashlight or head lamp as these are not provided.
